INDEPENDENCE, Minn. (9/12/21) – Arkansas State men's golf began the 2021-22 season Sunday at the Gopher Invitational and are 10th among 14 teams after 36 holes at Windsong Farm Golf Club.
A-State, featuring three newcomers among the five-player lineup, carded a 2-over par 286 in the first round and followed with a 9-over par 293 to finish the first two rounds with a total of 579 (+11). Kansas leads the field at 11-under par with Michigan State (-7) and Notre Dame (-5) rounding out the top three. The Red Wolves are one stroke behind Miami (Ohio) and Marquette for eighth (+10) and nine strokes shy of West Virginia (+2) for fifth. Ten of the 14 teams in the field, including A-State, were ranked inside the top-100 of the final Golfstat rankings last season, led by Notre Dame at No. 31.
Individually, junior
Luka Naglic is tied for 11th with back-to-back 1-under par rounds of 70. Naglic enters the final round three strokes behind the individual leaders. True-freshman
Felix Krammer is second among the Red Wolves after posting a first round 73 (+2) and second round even-par 71 to rank tied for 31st overall. Senior transfer
Chris Rahm had the low round of the day for A-State with a 2-under par 69 on the first 18 holes. After a second round 78, Rahm enters Monday in a tie for 43rd. Junior
Jack Madden (T60th) and sophomore transfer
Lucas Cena (T63rd) round out the Red Wolves in the field.
