FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (2/19/22) – The Arkansas State women's tennis team was dealt a 4-1 setback Saturday afternoon against the University of Arkansas at the Billingsley Tennis Center.
Arkansas (6-3) took the doubles point winning on court one over
Thea Rice and
Nejla Zukic 6-1 and court two over Yasmine Humber and
Sofia Vdovychenko 6-0.
Emily Surcey and
Rebecca Brody were tied 4-4 on court three when the doubles point was clinched.
Rice earned A-State (2-4) a point via retirement at No. 1 singles leading the Razorbacks No. 1 player 4-1 at the time. Surcey was dealt a 6-1, 6-2 defeat on court three, Vdovychenko fell 6-1, 6-2 on court four and Humbert lost in straight-sets 6-1, 6-0 on court five to clinch the match for the hosts. Zukic trailed 6-0, 4-0 on court two and Brody faced a 6-0, 4-1 deficit on court six when the match was decided.
A-State is scheduled for three road matches next weekend. The Red Wolves visit Alcorn State on Friday before traveling to Ruston, La., to take on Grambling and Louisiana Tech on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
