Coastal Carolina Tops A-State Tennis 4-0

JONESBORO, Ark. (3/26/22) – Dropping the doubles point in league play for the first time, the Arkansas State women's tennis team was dealt a 4-0 setback against Coastal Carolina Saturday at the A-State Tennis Complex.
 
A-State (4-10, 0-4 Sun Belt) entered the weekend 3-0 during league play in doubles, but Coastal Carolina (9-7, 4-2 Sun Belt) took the point with a tiebreak win on court one. Emily Surcey and Hunter Roper suffered a 6-1 setback on court three, but Sofia Vdovychenko and Yasmine Humbert fought off two match points down 5-3, forced a tiebreak and won 7-6 (6) on court two. Thea Rice and Nejla Zukic went to a tiebreak on court one, but the Chanticleers pair took the match 7-6 (6) to clinch the doubles point.
 
Needing three singles wins to clinch the match, the Chanticleers got off to a quick start with Paola Landin Lopez downing Zukic 6-0, 6-1 on court three. Jesse Hollins made it 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Humbert on court six and Anna Babyan clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Vodvychenko on court five. Rice (6-1, 4-6, 2-0), Surcey (7-6, 1-4) and Roper (1-6, 6-4, 3-1) were leading at the time the Chanticleers clinched the match.
