Troy Battles Past A-State Tennis 4-3

TROY, Ala. (4/2/22) – Despite winning the doubles point for the fifth time in six league matches, the Arkansas State women's tennis team came up short in a 4-3 loss to Troy Saturday afternoon.
 
A-State (5-11, 1-5 Sun Belt) won the doubles point to grab the early advantage over Troy (8-11, 3-6 Sun Belt). The tandem of Yasmine Humbert and Sofia Vdovychenko won 6-2 on court two, but the duo of Emily Surcey and Hunter Roper fell 6-3 on court three. On court one, Thea Rice and Nejla Zukic battled to a 6-4 win to clinch the doubles point.
 
Anastasiia Khokhlova downed Rice (6-1, 6-1) on court one to even the match at 1-1, but Hunter Roper picked up a straight sets win over Olivia Elliott (6-0, 6-3) on court four to regain the lead for A-State. The Trojans tied the match at 2-2 with Franziska Ahrend defeating Vdovychenko 6-1, 6-4. Michelle Ncube followed with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Emily Surcey to give Troy the 3-2 advantage, but Humbert made it 3-3 with a win (6-1, 6-4) over Andrea Widing. Playing on court three, Zukic came up short in the third set against Hagar Amin (1-6, 6-0, 1-6) as the Trojans took the victory.
