STARKVILLE, Miss./NASHVILLE, Tenn./DES MOINES, Iowa (4/29/22) – The Arkansas State track and field teams kicked off their final pre-Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships tune-up meets on Friday, competing at the Maroon and White Invite, the Music City Challenge and the Drake Relays.
In Starkville, Frank Massey picked up from where he left off, winning the men's high jump with a mark of 2.12m (6-11.5).
Camryn Newton-Smith leaped into the top 10 of the women's high jump, placing second overall with a clearance of 1.76m (5-9.25). Sydney Lane tied for fourth with a mark of 1.68m (5-6.0), while Allie Hensley cleared the same bar for a season-best mark.
Newton-Smith later placed third in the long jump with a leap of 6.09m (19-11.75).
At Vanderbilt, Jacob Tracy and Willem Coertzen earned top-3 finishes in the men's discus. Tracy won with a throw of 48.96m (160-7.0) while Coertzen tossed 46.49m (152-6.0). In the women's discus, Grace Flowers led a trio of throwers with a fifth-place finish, hurling 46.97m (154-1.0).
Jonae Cook clocked a personal-best and placed seventh in the women's 200 meters, finishing in 24.23.
In the women's 1500 meters, both Kayla Wade and Sophie Leathers moved up in the program record books in the event, with Wade finishing in 4:32.31 and Leathers turning in a time of 4:32.88. The times rank sixth and seventh in A-State history, respectively.
Jacob Pyeatt placed seventh in the men's 1500 meters, running a personal-best 3:54.85.
Marina McDonough placed fifth in the women's steeplechase,and moved to seventh in school history with a time of 11:17.03.
Sarah Trammel ended the night in the women's 3000 meters, placing sixth with a personal-best 9:44.63.
At Drake, a quartet of men's distance runners competed in the men's 4x1600-meter relay, placing seventh with a time of 16:51.77. Thursday in Des Moines, Bennett Pascoe placed fourth in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:44.52 while Seth Waters clocked a time of 1:54.13 to place 17th in the 800 meters.
