JONESBORO, Ark. (4/12/23) – Arkansas State men's basketball head coach Bryan Hodgson announced Wednesday the addition of University of Massachusetts transfer Dyondre Dominguez to the 2023-24 roster. Dominguez will have two years of eligibility remaining.
"We are really excited to have Dyondre joining our program," said Hodgson. "Dyondre has had a great career so far at UMass and he brings versatility for us at the wing spot. He's an elite defender, can stretch the floor and he can bring the ball up the floor. Dyondre can play both the three and the four, is efficient beyond the arc and can also really affect the game on the glass and in the paint as an elite level, downhill driver. His length and versatility will be a huge benefit for us on both ends of the floor."
Dominguez played the last three seasons at UMass. The 6-foot-9 forward joins the Red Wolves with 354 points (5.6), 195 rebounds (3.1), 46 assists (0.7), 16 steals (0.3) and 27 blocks (0.4) in his 63 career games played, including eight starts. For his career, he has shot 46.8 percent (132-282) from the field, 32.8 percent (38-116) from 3-point range and 69.3 percent (52-75) at the charity stripe.
In 30 games played, including one start, Dominguez averaged 8.7 points and 4.4 rebounds for the Minutemen in 2022-23 averaging just shy of 20 minutes. He shot 51.6 percent (99-192) from the field, 39.1 percent (25-64) from 3-point range and 73.1 percent (38-52) at the stripe. In Atlantic-10 Conference play, he shot 42.5 percent (17-40) beyond the arc to rank eighth while his 47.8 percent (55-115) shooting from the floor ranked 16th in league outings. He reached double figures in 14 outings while pulling down five or more rebounds in 13 games. He logged a season-high 17 points at Duquesne (March 1) and had a double-double with 13 points and career-high 11 boards versus Duquesne (Jan. 28).
As a sophomore in 2021-22, Dominguez appeared in 22 games and made seven starts. He averaged 3.0 points and 2.2 rebounds while shooting 36.8 percent (25-68) from the floor. In his freshman season, Dominguez played in 11 games and logged 93 minutes. He scored a season-high 15 points on 5-of-7 from the field with a pair of rebounds and assists at Richmond (Feb. 23).
In his prep career, Dominguez played the 2019-20 season at Woodstock Academy, helping the Centaurs to a 29-8 record and a National Prep Championship tournament berth. He also prepped at New Hampton School. Out of high school, the Providence, Rhode Island native was rated a three-star recruit by 247Sports and the No. 9 player from Rhode Island.
