DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (4/16/23) – Turning in its lowest round in the Sun Belt Conference Championship since 2019-20, the Arkansas State women's golf team is fourth among the 12 league members heading into Monday's second round of the championship contested at LPGA International Hills Course.
A-State carded an 8-over par 296 on the par-72, 6,134-yard course in the opening round, its lowest since posting a 6-over par 294 in the second round of the 2019 SBC Championship at LPGA International. Including today's 296, A-State has registered a round of 296 or lower at the Sun Belt Championship in five rounds since 1997.
Texas State posted a 2-under par 286 to top the team leaderboard after 18 holes. ULM Georgia Southern is second at 3-over par 291 with Georgia Southern third at 4-over par 292. A-State has a one-shot advantage on fifth place Old Dominion and leads Georgia State by two shots. Troy (+12), South Alabama (+12), Southern Miss (+13), James Madison (+17), Marshall (+19), Coastal Carolina (+22) and Appalachian State (+25) round out the team standings.
Elise Schultz led A-State Sunday with five birdies, including four on the front nine. She finished at 2-under par 70 on the round to stand tied for third individually. Olivia Schmidt had three birdies in her round and finished up at 1-over par 73 to tie for 12th while Casey Sommer had a pair of birdies and finished at 3-over par 75 and tied for 27th thus far. Morgan Beaulieu shot 6-over par 78 to tie for 43rd and Charlotte Menager was 9-over par 81 to tie for 55th.
