STRUTHERS, Ohio (10/13/2024) – Wrapping up the opening weekend of the season, the Arkansas State women's bowling team finished fourth at the Penguin Classic hosted by Youngstown State.

A-State posted a 2-1 record in bracket play Sunday to wrap up the event with an overall record of 10-3. The Red Wolves were fifth in qualifying, but back-to-back wins to open the day gave A-State a chance to finish third.

The Red Wolves opened the day facing Valparaiso and swept No. 19 Valparaiso. A-State took the opening game by two pins, 204-202 and earned 214-182, 171-167 and 198-165 wins to close out the sweep. Up next, A-State faced No. 10 Duquesne and earned another 4-0 sweep. A-State took take game 226-203 and game two by 15 pins, 185-170, before closing out the match with 245-204 and 268-204 margins. Facing the host No. 3 Youngstown State in the third-place match, A-State fell behind 3-0 before a three-pin margin in game four, 194-191, forced a fifth game the Penguins won to end the match.

A-State returns to action Oct. 18-20 at the Destination Tournament hosted by Sacred Heart University in Orlando, Fla.
