JONESBORO, Ark. (10/29/24) – After posting a pair of dominant performances at the net to help Arkansas State volleyball remain unbeaten at home, junior middle blocker Daedrianna Cail earned Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors, the league office announced Tuesday.

The Marion, Ark., native was nearly unstoppable in A-State's two 3-2 victories over Troy, tallying 21 total blocks for an average of 2.10 per set. She is the second Red Wolf to earn the honor this year after Sarah Martinez did so on Sept. 10.

In Thursday's come-from-behind triumph, she had a career-high 17 kills and hit .394 with 11 blocks – including four solos – to become the first A-State player since 2015 to record a kills/blocks double-double.

On Friday, Cail nearly repeated the feat, knocking down 10 more blocks (three solo) to accompany nine kills, as the Red Wolves fended off a fierce Trojan comeback from a 2-0 deficit.

Cail enters the week leading the Sun Belt in attack percentage (.374) and is third in the league in total blocks (105) and blocks per set (1.28). However, she is tied atop the league leaderboard in solo blocks with 19 on the year.

In conference matches only, Cail stands alone atop the conference blocks leaders with 63, averaging 1.54 per set and boasting a league-high 13 solo denials.

Arkansas State faces another road test this weekend, traveling to Louisiana for matches Friday (6 p.m.) and Saturday (1 p.m.). Both matches at Earl K. Long Gym will be broadcast live on ESPN Plus.
