11/1/2024 7:08:00 PM

HOUSTON, Texas (11/1/24) – With pinfall low for all 18 teams, the Arkansas State women's bowling team totaled a program-best Baker 5-game total of 1,225 pins in the final match of the day to lead the event following the first day of competition.

Averaging 181.8 pins over the first four matches, the Red Wolves found their groove in the fifth match of the day. A-State rolled a program-best Baker total of 1,225 against Alabama State to close out the day, one of only two 5-game totals over 1,000 Friday. The Red Wolves rolled all five games of that match over 200 pins after downing 200 or more pins just four times in the first four matches. The 1,225 pins in Baker match five Friday ranks as the 10th-highest Baker five-game total in NCAA history.

Including the 1,225-932 victory over Alabama State to close the day, the Red Wolves were 4-1 on the day. A-State opened with a 935-885 margin against Lewis and followed with a 937-901 advantage against No. 9 Maryville. The Red Wolves moved to 3-0 with an 878-774 tally against No. 24 Oklahoma Christian, but a 954-886 decision against No. 16 Maryland Eastern Shore was the lone setback on day one.

A-State leads the field in total pinfall with a Baker total of 4,861 and an average of 194.4. Sam Houston is second with 4,751 pins followed by Stephen F. Austin (4,732), Tulane (4,683), Maryland Eastern Shore (4,671), Louisiana Tech (4,663), McKendree (4,574), Central Missouri (4,544), Maryville (4,503) and Newman (4,343) in the top 10.

Following a position round match against No. 8 Sam Houston, A-State has traditional matches against Central Missouri, No. 21 McKendree, Adelphi and No. 15 Newman. Live streaming is available on the Red Wolves Bowling YouTube page.
