JONESBORO, Ark. (11/20/24) – For the second week in a row and the third time this season, Arkansas State volleyball's Sarah Martinez has been named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Martinez was instrumental in A-State's two victories at Old Dominion to clinch the Sun Belt regular-season title, averaging 5.78 digs per set and totaling 52 digs. With her anchoring the back row, A-State has limited opponents to a league-best .146 clip on the year.
The Flower Mound, Texas, native recorded a season-high 30 digs in Friday's regular-season finale, matching her career high, while tallying 22 in Thursday's victory. In addition to her 30 digs Friday, she also had career-high 12 assists for her second career double-double.
Martinez is A-State's first three-time weekly award honoree since Tatum Ticknor was named Defensive Player of the Week three times in 2021.

Top-seeded Arkansas State opens Sun Belt Conference Tournament play on Friday against either West No. 5 seed Southern Miss or East No. 4 seed Coastal Carolina. First serve in the quarterfinal match is slated for 4:30 p.m. in Foley, Ala., and the match will be carried on ESPN+.
