JONESBORO, Ark. (2/16/24) – A dominant performance saw the Arkansas State women's tennis sweep Arkansas Tech 7-0 Friday afternoon at the RidgePointe Tennis Center.
A-State (4-3) won all three courts in doubles to clinch the point. At No. 1 doubles, Yasmine Humbert and Sarah Millard won 6-2 while Nejla Zukic and Ariadna Fernandez clinched the point with a 6-3 win on court three. Playing out the match on court two, Anna Grigoreva and Abigail Thurmer won 6-4.
"This week we worked hard on the court and in the weight room, everyone put 100% effort and had great attitudes everyday," Humbert said. "This payed off in our match today! I think everyone was itching to play matches after a weekend off and it showed on the court today. You could feel the energy from every court, there was never silence. Everyday I get more and more excited to see where our games are going to lead us!"
Grigoreva gave the Red Wolves the 2-0 lead with an impressive 6-0, 6-1 win over Sofia Beggiatto on court two. Humbert made it 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-3 win on court one and Millard's 6-3, 6-4 win over Maria Krite on court three clinched the victory for A-State. Playing out remaining matches, Fernandez cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win on court four, Emiliya Margolin won 6-3, 6-0 on court six and Rebecca Brody won 6-1, 7-5 to end the sweep.
A-State returns to action Saturday, Feb. 24, with an 11:00 a.m. first serve against Jacksonville State. The match is scheduled to played indoors at Jonesboro Country Club.
