Trojans Force Run-Rule on A-State, 12-2 (7)

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (3/12/24) – Arkansas State baseball (11-6, 0-0 SBC) cut the deficit to one in the third, but nine unanswered runs powered Little Rock (11-6, 0-0 OVC) to a 12-2 victory on Tuesday afternoon at Gary Hogan Field.

Kole Turner (0-1) made his first career start as a Red Wolf, surrendering three earned runs on three hits and two walks over 1.1 innings pitched. On the flip side, Wil French was one of four batters to record a hit in the contest and brought in the only two runs scored.

The Trojans put the first runs on the board during the bottom of the first, starting with a sacrifice fly to centerfield from Nico Baumbach. With two outs later in the frame, Skyler Trevino sent a grounder through the right side for an RBI-single to make the score 2-0.

Ben Harmon extended the deficit to three runs in the second after singling with a grounder through the middle.

French led the A-State response in the next frame with a two-run home run to dead center. However, Little Rock would get the runs back on a double from Baumbach and a single from Noah Brewer, making the score 5-2 going into the fourth.

The Trojans unloaded with four runs in the next inning, starting with a solo-home run from Tyler Williams. Trevino added on with an RBI-single before Ty Rhoades brought in two more with a double to left center.

With the bases loaded and two outs, Rhoades landed a bullet inside the right-field line for a three-run double. The Red Wolves prevented the lone runner in scoring position from advancing any further, but trailed 12-2 entering the seventh.

A-State was retired in order during the inning, putting the run-rule into effect. Austin Stubber (3-0) earned the win while Turner took the loss as the Scarlet and Black fall to 2-4 on the road.
