JONESBORO, Ark. (3/24/24) – The Arkansas State women's tennis team was dealt a 5-2 setback against Appalachian State Sunday at the A-State Tennis Courts.
A-State (7-8, 1-3 Sun Belt) came up short in the doubles point and Appalachian State (10-5, 4-1 Sun Belt) used singles wins on courts one, three, four and five to seal the 5-2 decision. A-State won at No. 1 doubles with Yasmine Humbert and Sarah Millard picking up the 6-1 victory, but App State downed Anna Grigoreva and Abigail Thurmer 6-1 on court two and clinched the point with a 6-4 win over Rebecca Brody and Nejla Zukic.
Grigoreva picked up a win by retirement on court two in singles after winning the first set 6-4. App State's lead grew to 2-1 with Zukic falling 6-4, 6-1 to Maggie Pate on court three and the Mountaineers led 3-1 following a 6-2, 6-2 win by Olwyn Ryan-Bovey against Millard on court four. App State clinched the match with Naledi Manyube topping Brody 6-4, 6-1 on court five and Savannah Dada Mascoll downed Humbert 7-5, 7-5 on court one to make it 5-1. Ariadna Fernandez added another tally for A-State defeating Brooke Demerath 7-5, 6-4 on court six.
A-State continues the four-game homestand on Thursday with an 11:00 a.m. contest against Old Dominion. Admission is free to the match played at the A-State Tennis Courts.
