A-State Run-Ruled at Arkansas, 13-0 (7)

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (4/2/24) – Arkansas State baseball (16-15, 3-6 SBC) was unable to find any success against top-ranked Arkansas (24-3, 8-1 SEC), falling 13-0 in seven innings on Tuesday night at Baum-Walker Stadium.

Kole Turner (1-2) made his fourth start of the season, surrendering four runs (three earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out two more over 2.0 innings pitched. Blake Burris recorded the Scarlet and Black's only hit of the contest, landing a blooper in centerfield for a single.

With two outs and bases loaded in the bottom of the first, Peyton Holt singled to shortstop and brought in a run while another scored on a throwing error. Ben McLaughlin sent a two-run shot to left center in the next inning as the Razorbacks took a 4-0 lead into the third.

Arkansas blew the game open in the third, starting with an RBI-double from Ross Lovich that extended the Red Wolves' deficit to five runs. Will Edmunson reached on a single two at-bats later, but a throwing error from third base allowed two more to score as A-State trailed by seven.

McLaughlin and Wehiwa Aloy recorded back-to-back RBI-knocks before Nolan Souza capped off the nine-run frame with a grand slam to right center.

No more runs would be scored before a run rule went into effect in the middle of the seventh. Colin Fisher (5-1) earned the win while Turner took the loss as A-State falls to 1-1 against SEC opponents this season.

Collin Maloney, Bryce Schares, and Walker Williams put together solid relief performances with no runs allowed on two combined hits over the final three innings.
