Red Wolves Caps Vanderbilt Invite with Eight Career-Bests Saturday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (1/18/25) – Arkansas State track and field capped a solid weekend of competition at the Vanderbilt Invitational, carding four top-five finishes and eight career-best marks on Saturday.

Chris Boyd earned a runner-up finish in the men's shot put, throwing 16.74m (54-11.25). In the invitational section, Willem Coertzen was sixth (17.68m/58-0.25) while Menachem Chen placed eighth (16.74m/54-11.25).

Selase Sampram placed fourth in the women's shot put invite with a season-best toss of 15.95m (52-4). Michelle Ogbemudia came in eighth, throwing 14.30m (46-11).

Will Glass and Colby Eddowes posted the top two times in the men's 60-meter hurdles prelims, running 7.80 and 7.81 – both season bests. Eddowes later placed second in the final, running 7.82. Glass also ran a career-best 7.02 in the 60-meter prelims. Josh Jones (8.29) and Kenyon Parker (8.31) also ran in the hurdles prelims, but did not advance.

In the women's 60-meter hurdles, Kiara Strayhorn (8.60) and Tyra Nabors (8.69) each advanced to the final. Nabors finished fourth in the final with a time of 8.56, followed by Strayhorn in sixth (8.69). Miranda Burgett and Izzy Daines both also ran in the prelims, carding times of 9.28 and 9.52.

Maddie Haldiman ran a career-best 5:06.70 in the women's mile, followed by Anna Hunter (57th, 5:18.46) and Hannah McLaughlin (70th, 5:34.43). In the men's mile, Brett Jacobs (4:14.48) and Aviel Gasko (4:21.99) came in 29th and 38th place, respectively, with Benny Brenneman clocking a personal-best 4:22.65 in a 40th-place finish.

Keniya Simpson ran a collegiate-best 7.76 in the women's 60-meter prelims, with AJ Allen clocking in at a season-best 7.97. Camren Bailey ran a season-best 6.87 in the men's prelims, while Javarian Otey finished in 6.91.

Spencer Taylor ran a season-best 48.86 in the men's 400 meters, while Mehki Hoo crossed in 49.48 – a career best. In the women's 400, Jada Buggs clocked a collegiate-best 58.11. Jada Buggs placed 21st with a personal-best 58.11, while Olivia Dixon (1:00.06) and Kneila Watson (1:01.65) placed 37th and 50th.

Carly Pujol (3.78m/12-4.75) and Kaci Andrus (3.63m/11-10.75) each competed in the invitational section of the women's pole vault, placing 11th and 12th. McKenna Hall placed seventh in the open section, clearing 3.38m (11-1).

Me'Kiyah Earnest jumped 11.41m (37-5.25) to place 21st in the women's triple jump.

In the women's 800 meters, Maja Dzialoszewska was 25th with a time of 2:15.86 and Abbey Coberly (2:22.13) placed 46th.

Lizzee Winkler led three runners in the women's 3000 meters with a career-best time of 10:30.14. Devyn O'Daniel was 51st (10:44.76), with Ivanna Hargis following in 53rd with a career-best time of 10:48.91. Dawson Mayberry (3:55.60), Ian Horton (9:10.52) and Andrew Mason (9:32.99) each ran in the men's race, placing 52nd, 55th and 59th.

The day concluded with the 4x400-meter relay. A-State's men placed 10th with a time of 3:17.16 while the women ran 3:55.42.

A-State returns to action next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 24-25, competing at the Fighting Illini Challenge in Urbana-Champaign, Ill.
