Pyeatt Breaks 3000-Meter School Record Friday

LOUISVILLE, Ky./LUBBOCK, Texas (1/31/25) – Jacob Pyeatt shattered the program record in the men's 3000 meters at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational, headlining Friday's competition for Arkansas State track and field there and at the Stan Scott Invitational in Lubbock, Texas.

Pyeatt became the first A-State runner to run faster than 8 minutes in the distance, clocking a time of 7:58.67 in a runner-up finish.

Three other runners recorded personal bests in the event behind Pyeatt: Brett Jacobs (30th, 8:28.64), Benny Brenneman (47th, 8:42.87) and Reid Gulstrom (59th, 8:54.41) while Avinash Patel ran 8:34.35 to place 37th.

In the women's 3000 meters, Maddie Haldiman led four Red Wolves with a career-best time of 10:11.21 in her 15th-place finish. Mary Beth Bailey was 18th (10:25.95) and Anna Hunter came in 25th (10:38.24), while Hannah McLaughlin ran a personal-best 10:39.63 to place 26th.

In the men's pole vault at Texas Tech, Jacob Dorrell cleared a career-best 5.05m (16-6.75) to place second, with Gavin Schaer (4.90m/16-0.75) and John Carswell (4.75m/15-7) following in third and fourth.

Michelle Ogbemudia placed second in the women's weight throw with a mark of 20.35m (66-9.25). Noa Isaia was fourth in the men's event, tossing 18.82m (61-9).

In the women's long jump at Louisville, Me'Kiyah Earnest jumped a collegiate-best 5.28m (17-4) to place 12th. Matthew Williams was 20th at Texas Tech in the men's long jump, leaping 6.78m (22-3). Madison Holloway was 23rd in the women's event, jumping 5.29m (17-4.25).

Jada Buggs finished 10th in the women's 600 yards, running 1:28.49.

Kiara Strayhorn qualified for the semifinals in the women's 60-meter hurdles, running a season-best 8.50 in the first round before matching it in the semifinal round. Josh Jones also qualified past the first round in the men's event with a time of 8.23, while Kenyon Parker just missed the cut at 8.27. Jones then ran 8.13 in a 16th-place finish in the semis.

Camren Bailey clocked a time of 6.81 in the men's 60-meters first round to qualify for the semifinal, while Javarian Otey was 31st, finishing in 6.89. Bailey followed it up with a career-best 6.78 in the semifinal, placing 18th. Reneisha Andrews finished 27th in the women's first round, running 7.63.

In the women's 60-meter prelims at Louisville, Keniya Simpson ran 7.89 to place 27th, ahead of Je'Breiya Chapman (43rd, 8.02), AJ Allen (48th, 8.05) and Nyla Watson (54th, 8.20). Simpson also was A-State's top finisher in the 200 meters with a time of 25.91, placing 27th. Olivia Dixon (36th, 26.10) and Chapman (37th, 26.13) recorded career-best marks. Hanyla Milligan (42nd, 26.35) and Kneila Watson (49th, 26.79) also competed in the event.

CJ Burge placed 46th with a time of 22.93 in the men's 200, while Sebastian Mejia (23.33) was 50th. Jeremiah Green placed 40th in the men's 400 meters with a time of 52.26. Mehki Hoo placed 47th in the 400 meters at Texas Tech, running 49.52.

Gabe Falting ran in the men's 800 meters, finishing 31st with a time of 1:56.02.

The Red Wolves conclude competition at Louisville and Texas Tech Saturday, with the latter being streamed live on ESPN+.
