MONTEREY, Calif. (10/21/25) – The Arkansas State men's golf team carded its eighth consecutive round under par and leads Santa Clara by eight shots entering the final round of The Saint Mary's Invitational at Bayonet Golf Club.
With the scoring average rising by half a stroke from the opening round, A-State was one of just three teams to finish under par Tuesday. The Red Wolves were 3-under par 285 and have totaled 12-under par 564 through 36 holes. Santa Clara had the low round Tuesday at 8-under par and A-State carries an eight shot lead over Santa Clara (-4) and St. Mary's (-4) into the final round. Pacific (-1), Texas State (+1), Long Beach State (+1), Fresno State (+3), Cal Poly (+8), Nevada (+8) and San Francisco (+8) round out the top eight and ties.
Jake Wallis paced A-State with a 3-under par 69, the second-lowest individual round on course Tuesday. It marks his eighth consecutive round of par or better and 12th on the season. Wallis has totaled 5-under par 139 to tie for fourth, two shots back of teammate Thomas Schmidt (-7) for the individual lead. Schmidt carded a 1-under 71 in the second round, his 13th par or better round this fall. Schmidt leads Sam Renner of Washington State and Oak Seelanagae of Nevada by one stroke to top the individual leaderboard.
Jake Lile turned in an even-par 72 in the second round and has totaled 1-over 145 to tie for 22nd. Milan Reed was 1-over par 73 and is tied for 14th at 1-under 215. Chris Somerfield (+6) is tied for 50th and Cole Kirby (+8) is tied for 68th.
