NACOGDOCHES, Texas (2/26/25) – Arkansas State women's tennis split a midweek twinbill on Wednesday in matches at Stephen F. Austin and against Lamar, held at SFA's Schlief Tennis Center.
A-State (7-4) opened with a 4-1 loss to the host Ladyjacks (5-4) before topping Lamar (3-6) in the second match of the day.
MATCH 1 – STEPHEN F. AUSTIN 4, ARKANSAS STATE 1
A-State dropped its opening match of the day, falling 4-1 to the host Ladyjacks.
SFA claimed the doubles point with a pair of 6-2 wins on Courts 1 and 2. Anna Grigoreva and Hanmare McAslin dropped their match to Jemma Cave and Anna Paula Chavez, while Lilly Cvanciger and Abigail Thurmer fell to Felicia Back and Sonja Rooth.
The Red Wolves earned a singles victory on Court 5 by Carla Muro Castellvi, who topped Antonella Taco 6-2, 6-0. SFA clinched the match, however, with straight-set wins on Courts 2, 3 and 4.
Cvanciger dropped a 6-3, 6-4 match to Ksenia Mamontova, while McAslin lost 6-2, 6-1 to Cave and Sarah Millard fell 6-2, 6-3 against Rooth. At the time the match ended, Grigoreva was tied 4-all in the second set with Back, while Loles Carbo Chova trailed 4-1 to Chavez.
MATCH 2 – ARKANSAS STATE 4, LAMAR 0
A-State rebounded in the second match of the day, sweeping Lamar 4-0.
The Red Wolves picked up the doubles point with wins on Courts 1 and 3, and then secured the match with wins on Courts 1, 2 and 6.
In doubles, Anna Grigoreva and Carla Muro Castellvi won 6-3 over Megan Do and Asta Miettinen at the No. 1 position, while Sarah Millard and Hanmare McAslin topped Savannah Bijlsma and Emma Palus 6-1 at the No. 3 spot. Lilly Cvanciger and Abigail Thurmer led 5-4 at No. 2 against Martina Alcaino and Arina Gudovskaya when doubles play was suspended.
Grigoreva defeated Gudovskaya at No. 1 singles by a score of 6-3, 6-2, while Cvanciger won a 6-1, 6-0 match against Miettinen on Court 2. On Court 6, Loles Carbo Chova routed Palus 6-1, 6-0.
When play ended, Muro Castellvi (Court 5) and McAslin (Court 3) both led by a set, while Millard led 2-0 in the second frame on Court 4.
