LA JOLLA, Calif. (3/24/25) – Thomas Schmidt posted his second consecutive round under par at Torrey Pines to help the Arkansas State men's golf team surge to second after two rounds of the UC San Diego Invitational.

Following an opening round 1-under par 71 Sunday, Schmidt turned in a 4-under par 68 to stand as the only individual under par with 36 holes played. Schmidt (-5) enters the final round with a 5-stroke lead over Kevin Li of Seattle while three other players are tied for third at 3-over par. The scoring average dropped to 76.97 Monday after players combined for an average of 78.55 in the first round.

Jake Lile and Milan Reed each posted 1-over par 73s to aid the Red Wolves surge to second. Reed climbs to a tie for 23rd at 7-over par 151 for the tournament while Lile moves up to a tie for 38th at 9-over par 153. Playing as an individual, Chris Somerfield was also 1-over par in the second round and stands tied for 15th at 6-over par 150. Jake Wallis (+12) is tied for 57th and Jack Maxey (+15) is tied for 81st to round out the Red Wolves in the field.

A-State totaled 3-over par 291 in the second round, 19 strokes better than its first-round total of 307. At 22-over par 598, the Red Wolves trail leader Sacramento State by five strokes entering the final round Tuesday at Torrey Pines. Utah State (+23), UC Irvine (+25), New Mexico State (+26), Cal State Northridge (+31), North Dakota State (+31), Seattle (+31), UC Riverside (+32) and George Mason (+34) round out the top 10 teams.
