ERIE, Colo. (9/29/25) – Thomas Schmidt highlighted a record-breaking performance by the Arkansas State men's golf team Monday in the opening day of the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational at Colorado National Golf Club.
Schmidt tied the program record for low round with a second round 9-under par 63 and set the program record 36-hole total at 17-under par 127 following a first round 8-under par 64. Schmidt totaled nine birdies in the first round and added seven birdies and an eagle in the second round for the record-breaking day. Schmidt carries a five stroke lead in the individual standings into the final round Tuesday.
Jake Wallis is tied for fourth individually at 9-under par 135 following a first round 64 and second round 65. Chris Somerfield totaled 3-under par 141 with back-to-back rounds under par of 71 and 70. Jake Lile is tied for 36th at 2-under par 142 (72-70) while Milan Reed is tied for 45th at 1-under par 143 (73-70). Playing as an individual at the Les Fowler Colorado Invitational, Viggo Hed totaled 1-under par 143 to rank tied for eighth among 38 players.
With all five Red Wolves entering the third round under par, A-State is second among 19 teams. Long Beach State leads the way at 32-under par 544 with the Red Wolves one stroke back. Host Colorado is third at 28-under par followed by Southern Illinois (-22), Loyola Marymount (-14), UTEP (-13), Texas State (-10), Wyoming (-10), Creighton (-8) and Tarleton State (-6) to complete the top 10.
A-State's second round of 18-under par 270 is tied for a season-low and the second-lowest round in program history while the 36-hole total of 545 is tied for the third-lowest.
The third and final round begins Tuesday with a shotgun start at 9:15 a.m. (CT). Live scoring is available on SCOREBOARD.
