Walton Knocks Three Home Runs in Opening Day Doubleheader Against Stony Brook

JONESBORO, Ark. (2/13/26) – Arkansas State (2-0, 0-0 SBC) took both games of the doubleheader off the bat of Lane Walton against Stony Brook (0-2, 0-0 CAA) on opening day, with a 9-8 win, then a 4-0 shutout Friday at Slayton Family Field at Tomlinson Stadium.
Graduate Chase Richter commanded game one from the mound with 4.2 innings, only relenting two hits and one run while sitting down seven Seawolves.
Three Red Wolves logged multiple RBIs, with Walton rocking a three-RBI home run in the fourth inning to raise A-State up 8-0. Stony Brook found a run in the fifth, then a five-run inning response in the sixth inning to shorten the Red Wolf lead only to two runs.
Ashton Quiller struck a single in the eighth and stole second to get into scoring position before Patrick Engskov singled through the left side to send Quiller home for the extra run that ended up being the difference-maker. Kole Turner reached the mound in the top of the ninth with two outs, and earned the final out to log the save.

Game two was powered by the A-State mound and the bat of Lane Walton. Jack Nelson started on the mound for the Red Wolves, retiring the first 10 batters he saw in order. A lone walk in the fourth was the only extra batter he saw, facing 19 total.
 Lane Walton gave A-State the lead in the second at bat of the bottom of the first with a solo home run. Walton repeated the feat in the third with a shot to right-center to up the lead to 2-0. The fifth inning saw two more runs, with a Walton double to send Derek Martinez home, and a fielding error that let Walton round third and reach home.
Houston Tomlinson took over on the mound for 2.2 innings in his first collegiate appearance, striking out two along the way. Brett Foss entered the game with the bases loaded needing just the final out to complete the save, where he struck out the batter in five pitches.
