JONESBORO, Ark. – The Sun Belt Conference announced Tuesday that Arkansas State's sophomore infielder,
Lane Walton was named Week 1's Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week.
Lane Walton launched a three-run home run in the season opener to extend the A-State's lead to eight in the fourth inning. Later, in game two of the doubleheader, Walton popped a solo homer in the second at bat of the game, followed by another solo shot in the third. Walton followed it up with a fifth-inning RBI-double. The Sugar Land native added another hit and two runs Sunday in the 12-5 completion of the sweep of Stony Brook.
Walton went 5-for-12 on the weekend with three home runs, one double, one walk, and one hit by pitch. He totaled six runs and six RBIs against Stony Brook with one stolen base.
Texas State's Kyle Froehlich was named Week 1 Pitcher of the Week.
Walton will look to continue his hot start at Ole Miss Tuesday afternoon as the Red Wolves face the Rebels at 4 p.m.
