A-State Earns 4-2 Win at Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (2/8/26) – Arkansas State women's tennis wrapped up a two-match weekend in Memphis by picking up a 4-2 win over the Tigers Sunday afternoon.
 
A-State (1-3) defeats a Memphis (0-3) squad that made the NCAA Tournament last season despite a 1-10 start. The Red Wolves earn their first win over Memphis since 2009.
 
The doubles point came down to the wire with the Red Wolves taking the point for an early 1-0 advantage. Helena Bueno and Anna Grigoreva took their match on court two 6-4 and the pair of Carla Muro Castellvi and Lilly Cvanciger clinched the match with a 6-4 win on court one moments later. Sarah Millard and Hanmare McAslin faced a 5-4 deficit when the doubles point was clinched.
 
Memphis evened the match 1-1 with Grigroreva falling in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 to Sofiia Mykhailets and the Tigers grabbed a 2-1 lead with Natalia Koppova handing McAslin a 6-3, 6-4 setback on court three. Millard made the match all square at 2-2 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Rebecca Frant on court six and Meghna Arun Kumar followed with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 triumph on court five putting the Red Wolves up 3-2. Cvanciger and Alicia Mall battled on court two with Cvanciger victorius 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to clinch the match. Bueno trailed 6-7 (6), 6-4, 0-3 on court four when the match was clinched.
 
A-State returns to Jonesboro for a pair of home matches this week. The home opener is Friday, February 13, against Tennessee State with first serve set for 10:00 a.m. at Jonesboro Country Club. The Red Wolves wrap up the weekend against Lamar on Saturday, February 14, against Lamar with first serve at 11:00 a.m. at RidgePointe Country Club.
 
The first 50 fans receive a free t-shirt, free pizza and Lamanade will be available. Admission is free to all A-State tennis matches.
