A-State Second with Second Round Play Suspended at Cowboy Classic

MARICOPA, Ariz. (3/31/26) – The Arkansas State men's golf team is tied for second among 25 teams with play suspended midway through the second round of the Cowboy Classic at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes.
 
Attempting to play 36 holes with 25 teams proved to be a tall task with play suspended due to darkness with most players halfway through their second round. The Red Wolves, ranked 46th nationally, opened with a 15-under par 273 and are scored at 4-under par midway through the second round for a total of 19-under par. No. 28 USC leads the field at 22-under par with the Red Wolves tied with Grand Canyon for second. Iowa State (-16), UTEP (-13), No. 42 San Diego (-12), No. 49 UNLV (-11), No. 45 USF (-10), Wichita State (-6), St. Mary's (-6) and Wyoming (-6) completing the top 10 and ties.
 
Thomas Schmidt paced the Red Wolves with a total of 7-under par. Schmidt opened with a 5-under par 67, his 10th round in the 60s this season, and is 2-under par in the second round seven holes to play. Cole Kirby posted a career best 6-under par 66 in the first round and is 3-over on the second round with eight holes remaining. Milan Reed is 5-under par in 29 holes played posting a 3-under par 69 in the first round. Jake Wallis was even-par in the first round but has gone 2-under over 11 holes in the second round. Jake Lile finished 1-over in the first round and is 2-over par after 10 holes in the second round.
 
Play is set to resume at 7:15 a.m. (PT) Wednesday with the third and final round immediately following. Live scoring is available on Scoreboard.
