Red Wolves Rally Past Lipscomb, 4-3

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (3/4/26) – The Arkansas State women's tennis team trailed 3-1 but rallied past Lipscomb for a 4-3 victory Wednesday afternoon at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center.
 
A-State (6-5) dropped a highly contested doubles point to trail early. The pair of Sarah Millard and Helena Bueno were dealt a narrow 7-5 setback on court three. Lilly Cvanciger and Carla Muro Castellvi battled to a tiebreak on court three, but Lipscomb edged the pair 6-7 (7) in the tiebreak. Anna Grigoreva and Hanmare McAslin were in a tiebreak on court two at 4-4 when the point was clinched.  
 
"Today was a big win for us, especially after tough match in Tulsa," Grigoreva said. "After losing the doubles point and being down 1-3 in the match, we showed incredible grit and resolve to win the match. We stayed focused and calm, had courage, and gave ourselves grace. I am very happy with our win and so proud of my team."
 
Bueno tied the match at 1-1 with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Martina Bovio on court five, but Lipscomb (5-4) earned wins on court three and four to gain a 3-1 advantage. McAslin fell 5-7, 4-6 to Deborah D. Collado and Meghna Arun Kumar was dealt a 2-6, 6-1, 2-6 setback on court four. Muro Castellvi began A-State's rally with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win over Sofia Zhylchuk on court six and Cvanciger outlasted Mariia Dolzhenko 6-7 (6), 6-4, 6-3 on court two.
 
The match came down to a tiebreak on court one with Grigoreva taking on Sofiia Paladi. Grigoreva won the first set 6-3, but Paladi forced a decisive third set with a 7-6, (3) win in the second. Facing a 6-5 deficit in the third set, Grigoreva saved matched point and went on to win the tiebreak 7-4 and clinch the comeback win for the Red Wolves.
 
The Red Wolves complete the midweek trip Thursday at Alabama State. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
