Thomas Schmidt, the Arkansas State men's golf team boasts six players in the top 10 and leads the A-State Spring Invitational after 36 holes at RidgePointe Country Club.
Schmidt carded a first-round 3-under 69 and followed it with 6-under 66 to finish the first day atop the leaderboard. It gives him five consecutive rounds in the 60s and 14 of 26 rounds on the season. His first round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-4 third and a second round eagle on the par-5 13th gives him a program record 17 eagles on his career. Schmidt carded nine birdies on the day running his career total to 527 to pass Zan Luka Stirn's (2017-22) previous program record of 525.
Jake Lile is three strokes back at 6-under par 138 and tied for second following an opening round 2-under par 70 and second round 4-under par 68.
Niels Knudsen is fourth at 4-under par 140 (71-69),
Cole Kirby is tied for fifth at 3-under par 141 (68-73),
Jake Wallis (70-73) and
Chris Somerfield (68-75) are tied for 10th at 1-under par 143,
Milan Reed is 20th at 1-over par 145 (73-72) and
Viggo Hed is tied for 27th at 6-over par 150 (75-75).
A-State totaled 11-under par 277 in the first round topping the field by seven strokes and followed with a 9-under par 279 as the only team under par in the afternoon. With back-to-back under-par rounds Monday, the Red Wolves recorded their 20th round of par or better this season, setting the single season record. The mark surpasses the previous record of 19, which was achieved during the 2024-25 and 2018-19 campaigns.
The Red Wolves enter the final round of the regular season with a single-season program record scoring average of 281.39. A-State (-20) leads Houston Christian (-3) by 17 shots while Southeast Louisiana (+13), Bradley (+13), Omaha (+13) and New Orleans (+13) are tied for third.
