TROY, Ala. (4/2/26) – Arkansas State (18-11, 5-5 SBC) dropped the series opener at Troy (14-16, 5-5 SBC), 4-6 on Thursday night at Riddle-Pace Field.
Â
Senior
Chase Richter started on the mound for A-State. Troy's leadoff hitter reached base with a single, but Richter forced the double play to end the inning, then sat down the next three batters he faced in the second on strikeouts.
Â
A-State broke the tie that held through the first two innings,
Cross Jumper coming around on a
Lane Walton single after drawing a leadoff walk. Troy responded in the bottom of the third with back-to-back RBI hits for the 2-1 lead.
Â
Troy added another two runs in the fourth, but the Red Wolves continued to find success off the leadoff hitter. Jumper singled out of the infield, and jogged home off of
Ashton Quiller's fifth home run of the season. The Trojans sent one out of the park on the first pitch of the bottom of the fifth, then added another on an RBI-triple for the 6-3 lead.
Â
The Red Wolves threatened in the seventh, drawing two walks to lead off the inning. Back-to-back flyouts from A-State moved
Jake Henry Williams from second to third, then home to pull the score back within two runs.
Â
A-State worked two-out hits in both the eighth and ninth innings, but were unable to put together a rally in either.
Â
Win: Benjamin Stubbs (3-0)
Loss: Chase Richter (2-3)
Save: Dylan Alonso (4)
