JONESBORO, Ark. (4/3/26) – After six weeks on the road, the Arkansas State women's tennis team won a 4-3 thriller against UAB at the A-State Tennis Courts Friday afternoon.
A-State (10-7) took the doubles point in dramatic fashion to grab an early advantage. UAB (8-10) took the game on court one 6-4 over the duo of
Lilly Cvanciger and
Carla Muro Castellvi but
Anna Grigoreva and
Sarah Millard evened the tally with a 6-4 win on court two. Facing triple set point on court three,
Helena Bueno and
Hanmare McAslin fought back to force a tiebreak and went on to clinch the doubles point 7-6 (1).
UAB evened the match 1-1 with Bajri Gresi downing Muro Castellvi 6-1, 7-6 (0) on court four.
Meghna Arun Kumar picked up her fifth consecutive singles victory to make it 2-1 A-State with a 6-4, 6-3 win on court six against Antonia Ende. The match was deadlocked once again with McAslin coming up short on court three 7-5, 6-1 against Nera Tesankic. Cvanciger battled to a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win on court two against Klara Kajabova to give A-State a 3-2 lead but UAB got a 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 win from Julia Caffarena over Bueno to tie the match 3-3.
Grigoreva won the first set against Kristyna Damaskova on court one 7-5, but Damaskova forced a third set with a 6-4 tally in set two. Grigoreva grabbed an early 3-0 lead before Damaskova rallied to force a tiebreak. Grigoreva prevailed with consecutive points at 5-5 to take the match 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (5).
A-State continues the homestand Saturday against Troy. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the A-State Tennis Courts but inclement weather may force the match indoors to RidgePointe CC with a first serve of 10 a.m. Stay tuned to A-State Tennis social media (@AStateTennis) for the latest updates.
