JONESBORO, Ark. (5/9/26) – Arkansas State (28-21, 11-15 SBC) clamped down on Texas State (30-21, 12-14 SBC) after the Bobcats scored seven runs in the first two innings, Texas State held onto the lead for the 8-3 win Saturday night at Tomlinson Stadium-Slayton Family Field.
The Bobcats jumped early with an RBI-double after drawing a pair of walks to put ducks on the pond with one out. A strikeout gave little relief to the Red Wolf defense as an RBI-single and two-run home run totaled five in the inning in the top of the first.
Texas State worked a hit batter and a walk into another two runs off a pair of singles in the second inning for a 7-0 tilt. A-State logged a hit in each of the first three innings, but left all three stranded.
The Red Wolves finally changed the score in the fourth as
Derek Martinez and
Lane Walton both struck solo home runs to the home bullpen in succession.
Aidan Houseworth made it to first after getting plunked, and
Jake Henry Williams sat for four straight balls to move Houseworth into scoring position.
Kaden Amundson also earned first on an HBP to juice the bags, and
Ashton Quiller scored one on a sacrifice hit to right field, the inning ending with the score at 7-3 for the road side.
Reliever
Kole Turner entered in the second inning for the Red Wolves and commanded the rest of the game. The Canadian national hurled 7.1 innings on an efficient 79 pitches for five strikeouts, three hits, one run (unearned), and no free passes.
Texas State scored their eighth run in the top of the seventh, a bouncing ball to Turner thrown past the first baseman to allow the run to plate from second.
Win:Â Cade Smith (4-2)
