2022-present: (Arkansas State)

Lovings just completed his third season in Jonesboro by helping the Red Wolves to a 38-31 win over Bowling Green in the 68 Ventures Bowl. The 2024 team claimed eight victories that matched the third highest total in its 33-year history as an FBS member.

Since Coach Lovings’ arrival in Jonesboro, he has helped A-State nearly double its rushing yards per game output from 88.2 yards in 2022 to 156.9 yards in 2024. This past season, Zak Wallace earned honorable mention all-conference honors after totaling 732 rushing yards and 11 rushing scores, most for any A-State rusher since 2013.

Lovings has coached Ja’Quez Cross to 1,446 rush yards over the last three seasons. Entering his senior season in 2025, Cross could become A-State’s 10th all-time back with 2,000 rushing yards. In 2023, the ‘Natural State Run Game’ featuring Cross, Wallace and Cedric Hawkins totaled 1,447 rush yards and 15 scores. Lovings guided Johnnie Lang Jr. to All-Sun Belt accolades in 2022.

2021: (Nicholls)

Served as the defensive line coach. He helped the Colonels defense rank No. 2 in the Southland Conference in total defense while posting the program’s fifth consecutive winning season.

2019-20: (Austin Peay)

Named Interim Head Coach in fall of 2020 after serving as associate head coach in 2019, when he oversaw the defensive line. Helped Austin Peay win four of its last five games, including a 34-31 victory over Murray State in its 2020 season finale. In 2019, the Governors posted one of the best defensive seasons in program history, ranking among the FCS’ top 15 in rushing defense (No. 8), total defense (No. 12), scoring defense (No. 15).

2018: (Nicholls)

Served as the defensive line coach. Helped Colonels to first of back-to-back conference titles.

2011-17: (Louisiana)

Spent six seasons as running backs coach and an additional season as defensive line coach while in Lafayette. Helped the Cajuns to five New Orleans Bowl appearances, including four wins. He was a 2014 nominee for the Broyles Award, and in 2018, was a recipient of the 35 Under 35 AFCA Coaches Leadership Institute.

Under his direction, running backs Elijah McGuire earned Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year honors. McGuire rushed for over 4,300 yards and 42 touchdowns in his career and was a sixth-round NFL Draft pick by the New York Jets.

2007-10: (Mississippi State)

Spent four seasons at Mississippi State, first as a defensive quality control coach before taking over as a defensive graduate assistant for his final two years. The Bulldogs had several standout defensive lineman, including Titus Brown and Fletcher Cox. Brown went on to play with the Cleveland Browns from 2008-12, and Cox went on to become the 12th pick of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, winning Super Bowl LII and was a six-time Pro Bowl selection.
