Jerry Scott joined the Arkansas State Athletics staff on July 20, 2006, as Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Information before being elevated to Associate Athletics Director for Media Relations and, most recently, transitioning to Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Communications in 2023.
A member of the Athletics Department executive staff, Scott provides oversight of the media relations, marketing and broadcasting department's while also serving as sport administrator for the Red Wolves' men's basketball team, which advanced to the postseason in 2024 for the first time since 1999, and nationally-ranked bowling program. Throughout his time with program, he has worked with the media relations staff to manage all the information services and media requests for the Arkansas State Athletics Department and its 16 varsity sports.
Scott served 17 seasons as the primary media relations contact for the Red Wolves' football team. He has coordinated multiple All-America and additional honor campaigns for A-State student-athletes, while also covering the bowl publicity efforts for the 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016 Sun Belt Conference champion football teams. The media relations department was issued a prestigious "Super 11" award from the Football Writers Association of American (FWAA) in 2017, identifying it as one of the top 11 programs in the nation for exemplifying excellence in media relations.
Named a “Student-Affairs Hero” by the University during his tenure, Scott has supervised the media relations department during a period of unprecedented exposure and publicity in A-State Athletics’ history. He was appointed Chair of the Sun Belt Conference Communications Directors Committee in September of 2020.
Scott assisted with the creation of A-State Athletics broadcasting services and its first broadcasting control room, while he has also been closely involved with all the program's non-linear broadcasts and personnel matters. The Red Wolves annually broadcast over 75 events on ESPN+, including all home football and men's and women's basketball games that don't appear on linear television.
In his current role, he also works alongside A-State's marketing and fan engagement staff in the planning and execution of all promotional and fan-based initiatives, including the implementation of print and digital materials, ticket promotions, game-day experience, marketing opportunities and more to increase visibility and attendance.
Scott is a familiar face within A-State's conference after spending the previous seven years as a member of the athletic media relations staff at the University of North Texas, a member of the Sun Belt Conference from 2000-13.
His primary responsibilities at North Texas included overseeing the publicity efforts for men's and women's basketball, volleyball, swimming and diving and tennis. Scott was also highly involved in the publicity efforts for the football team, serving as the secondary contact for the sport.
He served as the interim sports information director at North Texas during 2001, was a member of the university’s athletic hall of fame committee and was active in several national and regional award campaigns for the school's athletic programs and its student-athletes.
Scott is a 1998 graduate of Tarleton State University (Stephenville, Texas), where he served as a student assistant with the sports information office. He is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), College Sports Communicators (CoSIDA) and Football Writers Association of America (FWAA).
