LADY INDIANS FALL AT CHATTANOOGA, 3-0

CHATTANOOGA, TN ? The Arkansas State soccer team were shutout for the second straight game as the Lady Indians dropped a 3-0 decision to Chattanooga on Sunday afternoon at the North River Soccer Complex. The loss drops the Tribe to 1-5-0 on the season while Chattanooga improves to 2-4-0.

“Today was another tough road loss. We just didn't seem to have our legs today and we didn't play with the same effort that we have been playing with all season long prior to this game,” head coach Jason Wharton said.

The Lady Indians fell behind in the 23rd minute as Chattanooga forward Bjork Gunnaradottir took a pass form Ida Marie Froseth in the box and pushed it past ASU goalkeeper Brielan Smiechowski.

The Tribe had a couple of chances late in the first half to tie the game but was unable to as the Lady Mocs took a 1-0 lead into the locker room. Chattanooga took a two-goal lead just over three minutes into the second half as Gunnaradottir scored her second of the game off of a corner kick from Tessa Drumeta.

The Lady Mocs added a third goal in the 78th minute as Diana Jallo notched a goal past ASU goalkeeper Kelly Goodman who came on in relief just minutes earlier. Chattanooga out shot the Tribe 31-6 in the game as junior forward MaryJo Rana tallied three of ASU's shots.

Smiechowski played 75:42 in net for the Tribe as she allowed two goals while notching 10 saves. Goodman played the final 14:18 of the game and allowed a goal while posting three saves. Chattanooga goalkeepers Stacy Matthiessen and Emily Cornett each posted two saves in the combined shutout.

The Lady Indians have now dropped 15 straight road games dating back to 2003 as they are 0-4-0 away from Jonesboro this season.
