Wedel Hits for 27 Points as ASU Rolls Past Hendrix 100-61

JONESBORO (11-6-2007) ? Arkansas State sophomore guard Ryan Wedel scored 13 points in the final 4:26 of the first half to help the Indians build a 45-28 lead at the break, and the Tribe went on to defeat Hendrix College 100-61 Tuesday night at the ASU Convocation Center.  The win wrapped up a 2-0 exhibition season for the Indians, who now await the Nov. 14 season opener at home against Utah Valley State.

Wedel finished with a game-high 27 points on 9-of-15 shooting.  He hit six out of 11 shots from behind the three-point arc and 3-of-3 from the free throw line.

“Ryan has got to be a 20-point guy,” said ASU Head Coach Dickey Nutt.  “Today I told him at our shoot-around that he had to have 20 points tonight and that we needed him to be very aggressive.  He is a good shooter and he is very unselfish.”

The Indians finished the game with just 10 turnovers while forcing the Warriors to turn the ball over 28 times, which included 17 steals by the Tribe.

Arkansas State senior Adrian Banks logged seven of the Indians' steals, along with seven assists and 12 points.

Adrian Banks had a super, super night,” said Nutt.  “He gave us everything he had.  He went after every loose ball, he tried to get deflections and shot the ball very well.”

Yima Chia-Kur was also in double figures with 18 points, hitting 7-of-12 from the floor, including a 2-for-2 mark on 3-pointers.  Shawn Morgan added nine points for the Indians, Michael Lance finished with seven, Ashton Farmer added six points and ASU got five each from Larry Handy and Kewain GantJeremy Thomas added four points and a team-high six rebounds, and Ifeanyi Koggu wrapped up the Indian offense with two points.

Andrew King led Hendrix with 20 points.

From here on out, everything counts and it's all about productivity,” said Nutt.  “Hopefully we can get going against a very good Utah Valley State team.”
