Biography

2007-08:  Played in 15 games, all as a reserve . . . Averaged 1.9 points and 1.1 rebounds per game in six minutes . . . Scored eight points and grabbed four rebounds in 14 minutes, all career highs, against Florida Atlantic on Feb. 8 . . . Followed the Florida Atlantic game up with six points, his second highest total of the season, at home against New Orleans . . . Scored in seven of his 15 appearances . . . Attempted just 20 shots on the season, but connected on 65 percent of those attempts to lead the team in field goal percentage . . . Led the team in blocks one game.

Kilgore (TX) College:  With his 6-8, 262-pound frame, Handy played both forward and center for Kilgore College as a sophomore after originally signing with Lamar when he came out of Hightower High School . . . Led Kilgore to a 17-13 record in 2006-07 and at one time the Rangers were ranked 11th in the nation at the NJCAA-I level . . . Averaged 11.7 points and 7.1 rebounds as a sophomore to earn honorable mention all-conference (Texas Eastern Junior College League) and Honorable Mention All-Region XIV recognition . . . Connected on 63.9 percent of his field goal attempts to rank 21st nationally and also made 70 percent of his free throw attempts . . . Posted a season-high 25 points against San Jacinto College and scored in double figures in 18 games . . . Recorded four double-doubles and pulled down at least 10 rebounds in five games, including a season-high 14 against Trinity Valley Community College.

High School:  During Handy’s senior year at Hightower High School he averaged 17 points and seven rebounds per game while shooting 65 percent from the field . . . Named first team all-district after helping Hightower to a 24-5 record and to the Class 5A Region III semifinals . . . Member of the Houston All-Star Team that played the Southeast Texas All-Star Team in the Gamble Awards Game, in which he led all scorers with 31 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
