ASU Inks Standout Texas Pole Vaulter

JONESBORO (6/27/07) ? Standout high school pole vaulter Jennifer Day has signed a national letter-of-intent to join Arkansas State University's track and field program, ASU assistant coach Lon Badeaux announced Wednesday afternoon.

Day, who stands five feet, is from Pleasant Grove High School in Texarkana, Texas. She has posted a best of 11-6 in the vault, which was good for second place in the 2007 3A Texas High School Track and Field Championships. In addition to competing in the pole vault, Day also ran cross country for Pleasant Grove and helped her team to a 38-4 volleyball record and a state finalist spot.

“We're thrilled to have Jennifer join our program,” said Badeaux. “She's a fine athlete and student. She comes from a very strong program and will help to fill a huge void here with the loss of Maria Ferrand and Elizabeth Boyle in the vault.”

Both Ferrand and Boyle recently exhausted their eligibility at ASU. Ferrand is the current pole vault champ in her home country of Peru and Boyle qualified for the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships earlier in the month. She vaulted 12 feet.

Day, the daughter of Jim and Tammy Day, is a member of the National Honor Society, the National Art Honor Society and is an Art Vase Gold Medalist at Pleasant Grove.
