LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (10/31/08)? The Arkansas State women's soccer team
ended the 2008 regular season with a 0-0 double overtime tie with UALR Friday night
at the Burns Soccer Park.
The Red Wolves completed their season with a 4-12-2 overall
record and a 1-8-2 Sun Belt Conference mark.
“It's great to finish the season on a high note with a great
performance by our entire team, which is what allowed us to get the 0-0 result,”
said head coach Derek Pittman. “We have gotten better with each and every game
we played this season and really showed a lot of growth and maturity in
disrupting Little Rock's game plan and success of our own, which is a good sign
going into next season.”
Freshman forward Kai Gear led the Red Wolves with two shots.
Freshman forward Stasha Siers, sophomore forward Anna Kaloghirou and freshman
forward Tracy Powell each added a shot to the ASU cause.
Christina Veasley and Alex Rustard led the Trojans with
three shots each.
Freshman goalkeeper Megan Stoltzfus made seven saves in goal
for the Red Wolves, making five saves in the second half, while ASU also
recorded a team save. Jane Picarelli made two saves in goal for UALR.
The length of the match was equaled in physicality with the
two teams combining for 35 fouls. ASU committed 18 fouls, while UALR had 17.
“I want and thank our four seniors for their consistent
effort and dedication to this soccer program,” said Pittman. “Their leadership
has been tremendously helpful this year. “
