Red Wolves Battle Back From Early Deficit To Earn SBC Soccer Tie With Louisiana-Monroe

JONESBORO, Ark. (10/5/08) ? Sophomore forward Anna Kaloghriou scored the tying goal off a corner from freshman Michele Clark in the 85th minute (84:23) to force an overtime tie, 1-1, with Louisiana-Monroe in Sun Belt Conference action Sunday at the ASU Soccer Complex.

“I was very proud of our girls we have worked very hard this week on being more physically and mentally tough for every game,” said ASU head coach Derek Pittman. “I thought except for the first five minutes, we did that. From top to bottom we played very hard and have all weekend. I'm glad we were able to come away with a positive result.”

The tie snapped a seven game losing streak for the Red Wolves.

Warhawks player Raydan Phillips put the Red Wolves down early in the match when she scored on a shot from 20 yards out to the right side of the goal in the third minute (2:13).

The remainder of the match ASU dominated most of the action taking 17 shots to ULM's six, including nine shots in the second half.
Clark took a career-high five shots to lead all players in the match. Kaloghriou added four shots for the Red Wolves.

The match was very physical with 32 fouls committed between the two squads.

ASU freshman goalkeeper Megan Stoltzfus made three saves in goal for the Red Wolves improving her record to 2-3-1. Mallory George made five saves in goal for the Warhawks.

The Red Wolves were in pink jerseys for the second straight match in support of cancer research. The game worn jerseys are up for auction with 50 percent of the proceeds going to the local affiliate of the Susan G. Komen foundation. To make a bid on the jerseys please contact the ASU Soccer office at 870-972-2340.

“It was a tremendous honor for our coaching staff and players to be able to play for such a great cause in wearing pink for the Susan G. Komen foundation. I think our kids did a great job representing our program in a great way,” said Pittman.

ASU will continue its four-game homestand Friday hosting Middle Tennessee at 4 p.m. on Friday before completing the homestand with a 1 p.m. match Sunday against Western Kentucky.
