DENTON, Texas (4/12/08) ? Arkansas State won two singles matches, but North Texas stormed back to take the overall win, 5-2, in a five-hour tennis marathon Saturday.
“It was a hard-fought match,” said Head Coach Marcia Williams. “I'm really proud of the girls because they never gave up. Maria (Oprea) really played well. Now, we'll come back and get ready for the Sun Belt Conference championship.”
Oprea captured the No. 1 singles match over North Texas' Madura Ranganathan, 6-3, 7-6 and Paula Chelminska defeated Catalina Cruz, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2. ASU also grabbed the No. 2 doubles match when Oprea and Chelminska defeated Rachel Wilhelm and Cruz, 8-5.
