JONESBORO, Ark. (4-27-2008) ? The New Orleans Privateers defeated Arkansas State 26-3 Sunday afternoon to earn the Sun Belt Conference series sweep of the Indians Sunday afternoon at Tomlinson Stadium and Kell Field.
New Orleans scored two in the first and eight in the second to take a 10-0 lead before the Indians got on the board with a run in the second. Junior second baseman Brandon Eller tripled to lead off for the Tribe, then scored when left fielder Todd Baumgartner reached on a fielder's choice.
New Orleans added three in the third, three in the fourth and three in the sixth to go up19-1, and ASU added its second run in the bottom of the sixth. First baseman Drew Benes got aboard with a double and scored on a ground out from center fielder Cody Pace to account for the run.
The Privateers added seven runs in the seventh before the Indians scored their final run in the bottom of the seventh when catcher Cade Baxter drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Catcher Jeff Lanning had four hits and five RBIs on the day to lead New Orleans, while Eller, Benes, Aaron Ferguson and Drew Benes all had one hit for the Indians.
Junior Jordan Kimball (2-3) took the loss on the mound for ASU, while senior Stephen Whalen (4-3) earned the win for UNO.
The Indians will be off until May 2 when they host Florida International in a three-game Sun Belt Conference series. Friday's first pitch is set for 7 p.m., Saturday's game is scheduled to get underway at 6 p.m., and Sunday's finale is scheduled for 1 p.m.
