ASU Ends Season and Indian Era with 8-0 Loss to UALR

JONESBORO, Ark. (5-17-2008) ? Arkansas-Little Rock jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings and went on to defeat Arkansas State 8-0 Saturday afternoon, giving the Trojans a 3-0 sweep over the Indians to close out a Sun Belt Conference series at Tomlinson Stadium and Kell Field.

Saturday's game ended the season for both ASU (20-34-1, 8-21-1) and UALR (16-32, 10-18), and ended an era at Arkansas State.  The game was the final contest for ASU to play under the Indian mascot.  Arkansas State's teams will now compete as the Red Wolves.

Trojan sophomore Ashur Tolliver (2-5) surrendered only four hits over seven innings to get the win, pitching with the lead from the second inning on.  UALR used an RBI single from shortstop Tommy Mousel and a two-run single from left fielder Daniel Guffey to score three times in the second.  A two-run single from third baseman Kody Kroll extended the Trojan lead to 5-0 in the third.

Mousel led off the sixth with a solo home run, and UALR picked up an unearned run later in the sixth and another in the seventh to complete the scoring.

Senior Joel Boeschen (3-5) took the loss for ASU in his final outing, giving up five runs on four hits with a strikeout and four walks in two and one-thirds innings.

Mousel's two hits and two RBIs led UALR, while redshirt freshman Danny Riemenschneider led the Indians with two hits.
