MOBILE, Ala. (5/14/26) – Arkansas State (29-22, 12-16 SBC) scored crooked numbers in four of the first five innings in the series opener at South Alabama (31-21, 15-13 SBC), while
Tyler Weimer picked through 6.2 inning in the 10-0 Thursday night win at Eddie Stanky Field.
The A-State offense took no time to warm up, the first five Red Wolves knocking a hit, with
Patrick Engskov batting in one run and
Cason Campbell slapping a double to score two more, up 3-0 after the first half-inning.
Ashton Quiller led off the second inning the almost the same as the first, but with a single rather than a double. A-State didn't add any runs, but got back to work in the third.
Kaden Amundson scored
Evan Griffis from second on a two-out single, and Quiller plated Amundson on a single up the middle.
Lane Walton led off the fourth with a double that tightroped the left field foul line, then jogged home after
Patrick Engskov charged a home run out of left field to set the score at 7-0.
Tyler Weimer helmed the Arkansas State defense with resilience, allowing one baserunner in eachof the first three innings, and two in the fourth, but held the home offense from consecutive success at the plate. A fifth inning single set up a double play to put a bow on the fifth inning after a pair of Red Wolves scored on a triple from Walton, who moved the final 90 feet on a wild pitch.
Weimer faced the minimum number of batters in the sixth, striking out his fourth batter of the night in the frame, and handled two more outs in the seventh before skipper
Mike Silva tabbed
Jack Nelson to find the final out, which he did by way of a flyout after two pitches. Weimer finished with 6.2 innings, 6 hits allowed, two walks, and four strikeouts.
Loss: Mitchell Heer (5-3)
