TULSA, OKLA. ? Tulsa (5-3) scored two goals in the first two
minutes and 28 seconds of play to hand the Arkansas State soccer team (3-3) its
third loss of the season, 4-0, in the final game of the Tulsa Soccer Challenge Sunday.
Freshman forward Kara Nitti led the Red Wolves with three
shots, two of which were on goal.
Freshman midfielder Kai Gear added two shots, while freshman
midfielder Lizzy Niles, freshman forward Sofia Turesson, senior midfielder
Bernadette Dierker and freshman midfielder Lyndsey Patterson each added a shot for
ASU's cause.
Sarah Green scored at the one minute mark on a penalty kick,
putting the Golden Hurricane up 1-0 early in the match.
Hannah Taylor then scored on a cross from Shannon Locke from
eight yards out in the third minute (2:28), giving Tulsa a 2-0 advantage.
Taylor scored her second goal of the match into an open net
from 10 yards out from a forward pass from Sarah Greene in the 56th
minute (55:56).
Rachel Robinson added another goal for the Golden Hurricane
in the 71st minute (70:38) on another penalty kick.
“I am extremely proud of our girls even after being put
under that type of adversity that early in the game they continued to play hard
and play for each other even though they didn't come out with the result they
gutted it out to the end,” said Arkansas State head coach Derek Pittman.
Freshman goalkeeper Sara Krimm made seven saves in goal for
the Red Wolves, facing a total 23 shots by Tulsa. Arkansas State had nine total
shots, with eight coming in the second half.
Turesson and freshman Midfielder Michele Clark were named to
the Tulsa Soccer Challenge All-Tournament team.
Arkansas State has a six day layoff before hosting Southeast
Louisiana next Sunday at 1 p.m. ASU's seniors will be recognized during “Senior
Day” celebrations prior to kickoff.
