ASU Soccer Battles FAU To Scoreless Tie

BOCA RATON, Fla. (10/23/09) – The Arkansas State women's soccer team took 20 shots, 10 of which were on goal, but was unable to net the game-winner, battling Florida Atlantic to a double-overtime scoreless tie in Sun Belt Conference action Friday.

The tie moves the Red Wolves to 6-8-2 overall with a 3-4-1 Sun Belt record. The Owls moved to 5-10-3 with a 3-5-1 record in league play.

“I am extremely proud of our girls they came on the road against a tough FAU team and put on a great effort and a great performance. We continue to create good goal scoring opportunities which is what we have been asking of our girls. The ball is going to find the back of the net as long as we keep playing the same kind of quality soccer,” said head coach Derek Pittman. “Our job now is to recover as best we can and come out and be ready to play a good team in FIU on Sunday.”

ASU freshman Lucy Brient led the team with four shots, three of which were on goal. Michele Clark also had three shots on goal to help the Red Wolves effort. Miranda Wiley, Chelsea Fricke and Anna Kaloughirou each added two shots in the contest.

The Red Wolves got good looks from both Wiley and Mary Geels who had shots bounce off the post, nearly scoring goals.

Freshman goalkeeper Susan Brown turned in her third clean-sheet of the season which ties the school record for most shutouts in a season. Brown made four saves, while facing 14 total shots.

Ashley Lantes showcased why she leads the conference in saves, making 10 in the contest for Florida Atlantic.

ASU outshot FAU, 20-14, taking 10 shots on goal to the Owls four.

The Red Wolves continue action in south Florida on Sunday when the take on Florida International. Kickoff against the Golden Panthers is set for 1 p.m. (EST).
