Red Wolves Drop 2-0 Match at South Alabama

JONESBORO, Ark. (10/14/11) – The Arkansas State soccer team held South Alabama at bay in the first but gave up two goals early in the second half and were unable to close the gap, dropping a 2-0 decision at South Alabama in Sun Belt Conference action on Friday.

The loss drops the Red Wolves to 5-8-2 on the season and 3-4 in league play. The Jaguars improved to 10-3-2 with a 3-2-1 record in league play.

“We created numerous chances but just didn't finish especially in the first half,” said ASU head coach Tafadzwa Ziyenge. “We are still in the hunt and need to keep ourselves there.

Brandi Smith scored both goals for the Jaguars in the 53rd and 56th minutes to give South Alabama a two-goal lead.

USA outshot the Red Wolves 12-11 and held an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal. Senior forward Kara Nitti led the attack for A-State with two shots on goal.

Megan Stoltzfus made six saves in goal for Arkansas State playing the full 90-minutes of the match.

ASU continues road action on Sunday with a stop at Troy. Kickoff against the Trojans is set for 1 p.m.
