JONESBORO, Ark. (10/20/11) – The Arkansas State women's soccer team took a 6-0 setback at Denver on Thursday in Sun Belt Conference action.
The loss drops ASU to 6-9-2 and 4-5 in conference play while Denver improved to 14-3-0 with an 8-1 league mark.
The Red Wolves held Denver to just one goal in the first half which came in the 9th minute (8:45) from Katy Van Lieshout. The Pioneers broke open the match in the second scoring five goals including a pair from Kristin Hamilton in the 49th (48:38) and 64th (63:12) minutes.
“We were overwhelmed in the second half after defending very well in the first half,” said ASU head coach Tafadzwa Ziyenge.
Denver outshot the Red Wolves 17-4 and senior Megan Mace was the only Red Wolves player to record a shot on goal.
Nicholette DiGiacomo recorded five shots, including three on goal to lead the Pioneers.
ASU returns home Sunday for a matchup against North Texas. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. against the Mean Green.
