JONESBORO, Ark.
(10/31/2011) — Arkansas State senior linebacker Demario Davis has been selected
as one of 11 linebackers from across the nation to be named to the honorable
mention list for the College Football Performance Awards' Linebacker of the
Week Award.
Davis
notched a season-high 12 tackles and a quarterback sack in the Red Wolves'
37-14 victory over North Texas Saturday.
His 12 tackles were just two shy of his career high. Davis and the ASU defense held Mean Green to
under 300 yards of total offense – the second straight week that Arkansas State
has held it's opponent under that mark.
Davis helped the ASU defense hold North Texas running back Lance Dunbar,
who had rushed for over 100 yards in four of his last five games and 20 over
his career, to just 90 yards. The
Arkansas State defense has yet to allow a 100-yard rushing performance this
season.
Other
players from across the nation named to the honorable mention list were Mike Taylor (Wisconsin), Danny Trevathan
(Kentucky), Jonathan Brown (Illinois), Gerald Hodges (Penn State), Manti Te'o
(Notre Dame), Trent Mackey (Tulane), A.J. Tarpley (Stanford), Conrad Scheidt
(Idaho), Sean Porter (Texas A&M) and Zach Brown (UNC). Georgia's Jarvis Jones and Arkansas' Jerry
Franklin were named as the Co-Performers of the Week.
Davis and the league-leading Red Wolves (6-2, 4-0) will be back in action
Saturday when ASU travels to Boca Raton, Fla. to take on the Owls of Florida
Atlantic in a 3:00 p.m. Sun Belt Conference matchup.
