JONESBORO, Ark.
(10/4/11) – A day after receiving the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week
Award, Arkansas State senior Cayla Fielder was named the CVU.com National
Player of the Week the website announced on Tuesday. Fielder is the first
Arkansas State volleyball player to be named to the Collegiate Volleyball
Update weekly honor.
Fielder helped
Arkansas State go 3-0 in conference play last week with wins over
Arkansas-Little Rock, South Alabama and Troy. She set a new career-high with a
.750 attacking percentage against Troy and added 18 kills in the match. Against
South Alabama she had 22 kills and a 5.50 kills per set average, while adding
12 kills and a .647 attacking percentage against UALR.
For the week
she had 52 kills, a .573 attacking percentage and a 4.73 kills per set average.
She committed just five errors in 82 attempts and added seven digs and 11
blocks assists.
In five
conference matches this season the Jonesboro, Ark., native has 81 kills and a
.486 attacking percentage, both of which lead the Sun Belt. She also leads the
conference with a .371 attacking percentage in all matches this season. For
her career Fielder has 1,238 kills and needs just 28 more to move into a tie
for eighth place on the all-time ASU career kills list.
The ASU
volleyball team will conclude its five-match home stand Oct. 7-8 with matches
against Denver and North Texas. Both matches will start at 7 p.m. and will be
played at the HPESS Facility.
