JONESBORO, Ark. (10/7/11) – The Arkansas State women's soccer team shutout Louisiana-Lafayette, 2-0 in Sun Belt Conference action Friday at the ASU Soccer Complex.
The win pushes ASU to 4-7-2 on the season with a 2-3 league record while, ULL falls to 4-9-1 with a 0-5 league mark.
“It was a very good defensive effort, Stasha Siers is in my opinion the best defender in the conference and I hope she gets recognized for it,” said ASU head coach Tafadzwa Ziyenge. “She held the defense pretty well, it was nice to see Megan Stoltzfus come back and do so well. It is always nice to win a game when you haven't played your best game.”
The Red Wolves scored the first goal of the match when Becca Wheeler sent a corner kick to Ashley Jackson who redirected the ball to Siers who finished the goal to the near post beating the goalkeeper to the left side in the 43rd minute (42:32), taking a 1-0 lead into halftime.
In the 71st minute (70:45), Alex Furr took an indirect kick which went over the head of the ULL goalkeeper  and found the back of the net, giving ASU an insurance goal pushing their lead to 2-0.
Senior goalkeeper Megan Stoltzfus made three saves in goal for the Red Wolves in her first start since returning from an injury.
The Red Wolves return to action on Sunday when they host ULM for a 1 p.m. matchup.
