JONESBORO, Ark. (7/13/2011) — Arkansas State senior linebacker
Demario Davis has been named to the 2011 Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List,
given annually to the nation's top college lineman.
Davis was a first-team All-Sun Belt
Conference selection following his junior season in which he recorded 63
tackles, 3.5 tackles-for-loss, one sack, two interceptions, two forced fumbles
and one fumble recovery. He was named
preseason All-SBC heading into his junior season as well.
Eligibility for the Rotary Lombardi
Award is limited to down linemen, end-to-end, either on offense or defense, who
set up no farther than 10 yards to the left or right of the ball, and
linebackers who set up no father than five yards deep from the line of
scrimmage.
A member of the ASU Athletic Director
Honor Roll and the Sun Belt Conference Academic Honor Roll each of the last two
years, Davis earned SBC Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance
in the Red Wolves 51-24 nationally-televised victory over Middle Tennessee Nov.
2. Davis logged seven tackles and
intercepted two passes in the contest, which tied the mark for the most
interceptions by any SBC player in a game last season.
Davis started all 12 games during his
sophomore season, leading the Red Wolves with 80 tackles.
Heading into his senior season, he has
been named preseason first-team All-SBC by Lindy's,
Athlon Sports, Phil Steele's, The Sporting News and Blue Ribbon college football publications.
